Summer's Biggest Bombs At Box Office

Did you go to the movies this summer? Chances are no. Hollywood has suffered a big loss this past summer. Tinseltown, which is known for setting records, set a really bad one with regards to Summer box office attendance. Yes, there were some hits like Wonder Woman and Guardians of the Galaxy 2, but many films fell short of expectation. What can we say with so many sequels, reboots and recycled story material? People just aren't going to the movies, instead they are embracing the Golden Age of original television through broadcast stations, Netflix and premium pay channels from the comforts of their home.

Noticeable flops were War for the Planet of the Apes, Girls Trip, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, Kong: Skull Island, Cars 3, Transformers, and The Last Knight. As you can tell from those films, clearly franchises are facing extinction as audience clamor for something new and original. However, it is not all doom and gloom. Franchise familiarity with clever creativity that taps into originality help propel Spider-Man: Homecoming, Despicable Me 3 and The Fate of the Furious to solid gains not only with audiences, but with critics alike.

Well here's to hoping that the fall will bring in more original films with a lot of creativity and less familiarity.
